Title

Sustainability Contemporary Lasem's Hand-Painted Motif in Graphic Design View

Abstract
Batik tulis Lasem, is a part of the cultural heritage of the Indonesian nation which is the result of the embodiment of Javanese-Chinese cultural acculturation, and has received national and international community recognition, is experiencing a crisis. The rise of new motifs and technologies in textile art has resulted in Lasem batik motifs looking ancient and not developing following the trend. This condition caused Lasem's writing batik to be abandoned by his fans. As one of the efforts to increase the interest that has been reduced and attract new enthusiasts from the young community, is with the sustainable design of Lasem batik through the creation of new motifs with contemporary styles. The creation of this contemporary motif will be centered in the villages of Jeruk and Karas Kepoh, because the two villages have descendants (the next generation) to carry out sustainable designs. The design of contemporary motifs of Lasem batik uses a visual communication media approach which is creatively carried out through exploration of reprocessing the old motifs of Lasem written batik into new ones. The design method used combines Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) with Design Thinking. The result of this design is a work in the form of a Lasem batik motif design with a new identity that will be socialized through the presentation of artworks (works and exhibitions) so that they are ready to be marketed. It is hoped that this research can become a new thing in a sustainable design method by making Lasem batik a pilot project. So that it can be applied in various batik handicraft centers in other regions in Indonesia.
